Our Story

Sitting high above the northern shore of Lake Waramaug, the Hopkins Inn has welcomed travelers since 1847. Guests enjoy expansive views of the lake, the Berkshire foothills, and neighboring vineyards from the dining areas and guest rooms. In addition, guests have access to the waters of the lake through the Hopkins Inn beach, located a short distance from the inn. Adirondack chairs on the lawn provide a pleasant afternoon's rest and are just steps above the sandy shoreline.

Franz and Beth Schober have owned and operated the inn for over forty five years. Their son, Toby Fossland, grew up at the inn and has worked alongside his parents full-time since 1991.

The restaurant is renowned for its contemporary Austrian cuisine, reflecting Franz's heritage. Many recent additions to the menus are distinctly American in flavor. The picture windows in the Victorian dining room offer a panoramic view of Lake Waramaug. When the weather is pleasant, guests may dine outside on a flagstone terrace shaded by a grand horse chestnut tree. In the cooler months, a roaring fire in the Tavern Room provides a warm and intimate atmosphere.

There are eleven guest rooms and two apartments available for lodging all year. The restaurant is open from late March through January 1 of each year.
